Two of the Santa Lucia Highlands most sought-after growers, Gary Franscioni and Gary Pisoni, collaborated to plant this excellent vineyard.  Located just south of the celebrated Garys’ Vineyard, Soberanes Vineyard resides in the heart of the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA.  Bernardus winery is privileged to be among the few wineries to receive both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from Soberanes Vineyard.

We have chosen a block planted with the highly regarded Wente clone of Chardonnay which is known for its small clusters of tiny grapes.  This clone, along with the highest quality farming practices provide us with a very intense wine exhibiting the finest quality flavor and aromas.  

Fermentation: Our Soberanes Vineyard Chardonnay is fermented and aged in the Burgundian tradition.  The grapes are hand-picked before being gently whole-cluster pressed and barrel-fermented using a variety of special hand selected yeasts.  The wine then undergoes a complete malo-lactic fermentation to enhance richness and complexity.   In addition, each barrel has been hand stirred every two weeks until shortly before blending and bottling.

Our 2022 Soberanes Chardonnay exhibits robust flavors and aromas, highlighted by rich toasted oak and caramel notes.  The palate is intense, with hints of lees and tropical fruits, kept in balance with a delicately crisp finish. Our Soberanes Chardonnay exemplifies the flavor and quality of this special grape growing region.
